Civil Engineering is a professional Engineering discipline that deals with the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including public works such as roads, bridges, canals, dams, airports, sewerage systems, pipelines, structural components of buildings, and railways.
The department of Civil Engineering was established in the year 1991. The department offers B Tech Programme with an intake of 60 and M-Tech programme in Transportation Engineering with an intake of 18. There are 12 registered PhD scholars. The department was approved as a QIP centre by AICTE. There are well equipped laboratories in all the major disciplines like Material testing, Geo-technical, Environmental, Transportation and Surveying. Also there is a concrete durability testing lab, the only one of this kind in Kerala, which caters for research needs in concrete durability testing. The department has excellent internal library facilities having more than two thousand volumes of books along with access to Pearson and IET digital libraries. It has subscription towards seven numbers of printed volumes of Journals, thirty six ASCE e-Journals and 275 Science Direct e-Journals. The department plays an active role in consultancy works and socially relevant projects.
The Department of Civil Engineering has been in existence since the inception of RIT. The Department is housed in an independent spacious block. The department offers B.Tech Programme in Civil Engineering and M.Tech Programme in Transportation Engineering. Excellent teaching learning process, student centric activities, and dedicated staff are the major strength of the department. Presently the department is accredited by NBA certification. Other activities of the department include research, consultancy, testing, and certification for entire Civil Engineering industry of the state. The department of Civil Engineering is putting all our efforts to improve the overall progress of the students. Also our department is committed with socially relevant projects to uplift the society.
