Civil Engineering is a professional Engineering discipline that deals with the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including public works such as roads, bridges, canals, dams, airports, sewerage systems, pipelines, structural components of buildings, and railways.

The department of Civil Engineering was established in the year 1991. The department offers B Tech Programme with an intake of 60 and M-Tech programme in Transportation Engineering, and, structural Engineering and Construction Management with an intake of 18 for both specializations. There are 20 registered PhD scholars. The department was approved as a QIP centre by AICTE. There are well equipped laboratories in all the major disciplines like Material testing, Geo-technical, Environmental, Transportation, Surveying and Civil Engineering softwares. Also there is a concrete durability testing lab, the only one of this kind in Kerala, which caters for research needs in concrete durability testing. The department has excellent internal library facilities having more than two thousand volumes of books along with access to Pearson and IET digital libraries. It has subscription towards seven numbers of printed volumes of Journals, thirty six ASCE e-Journals and 275 Science Direct e-Journals. The department plays an active role in consultancy works and socially relevant projects.
